FFOE: Fluency, Flexibility, Originality, and Elaborative Thinking
Students can brainstorm topics and how many ideas (fluency), how varied are there ideas (flexibility), how rare are their ideas (originality), and lastly, how detailed (elaborative) were their ideas. Students can get a point for every fluent answer they write, two points for each category of answers, and three points for an original answer. Add it up to see who the winner is! Try the activity below to get started. There is also a book called Brain Storming: The Book of Topics by Marty Fligor you can pull from. BE SURE TO COVER BRAINSTORMING RULES SO THAT A SAFE ENVIRONMENT IS CREATED.

Mind Mapping:
Mind mapping is a little different than ordinary webbing. True mind mapping by Tony Buzan harnesses and leaves more room for creativity. It allows minds to wander and open doors that may not have been opened under more strict circumstances.
Check out MindMapping apps and software in which students can collaborate on a map and/or share it.

- write a topic in the center of the paper
- only one word per branch (even proper nouns are broken up)
- whatever connection your mind makes...write it down (it is okay to wander some and then bring it back)
- also, connect ideas that are on separate branches if you feel they are connected
